Dingheng 19 "is the first commercial ship in the world to adopt a DC grid electric propulsion system. The cost of shipbuilding is huge, and there are no ready-made technical solutions or practical application cases to learn from in the market. The many uncertainties of the project have brought considerable pressure to Dingheng. After multiple investigations, Danfoss Transmission, with its professional and mature technology and rich experience, has partnered with China Shipbuilding Corporation 711 Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as "711 Institute") and Dingheng to reach a cooperation.
For electric propulsion ships, the reliability of the electrical system is the core and most important. Therefore, Dingheng has a high demand for the entire DC distribution system, and Danfoss Transmission has provided VACON for this purpose ® NXP DCGuard ™ Solid state switch. It is a semiconductor protection device that maintains the stability of the DC power grid by quickly detecting and cutting off any faulty DC current. It can isolate the faulty part of the system within 5 microseconds, protect surrounding equipment, and ensure uninterrupted operation.
1. Significant improvement in system reliability
The high quality and reliability of Danfoss's transmission products, as well as the system design and construction of 711 Institute, jointly ensure the reliability of the system. The operation of "Dingheng 19" has never been suspended due to technical issues, and it achieved profitability in the first month, while other ships of the same type require at least two to three months to achieve it.
2. Fuel consumption is much lower than that of conventional ships, improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions
Compared with ships of the same type and specification, the fuel consumption of "Dingheng 19" is at least 20% lower, and compared with similar old ships over 10 years old, the fuel consumption is more than 40% lower. For this reason, Dingheng has determined the plan to upgrade all old ships to direct current propulsion in the future.
3. Excellent resistance to wind and waves
DC electric propulsion solves the problem of sudden changes in propeller load that affect the gearbox and main engine during rough sailing. The load change of "Dingheng 19" can be controlled through DC distribution frequency conversion, and the output and input of the motor can be adjusted in real-time. So in the case of wind force 9, the same heading "Dingheng 19" can maintain a speed of around 11 knots, which also improves the operational efficiency of the ship.
4. Significant improvement in automation level
While ensuring the reliability of the entire electrical system, the improvement in automation has greatly reduced the workload of crew members.
Danfoss Transmission has been deeply rooted in the global shipbuilding and marine industry for many years, and can provide a complete set of frequency converter product combinations suitable for the needs of ships and marine engineering, covering various systems from engine rooms to ventilation systems, from cargo ship decks to living quarters, helping ships reduce energy consumption, shorten investment return cycles, and bring long-term value.
In this' Dingheng 19 'project, our VACON ® The series frequency converters have consistently demonstrated strong capabilities in improving system reliability and reducing fuel consumption. This successful cooperation has also laid a solid foundation for our future cooperation with Dingheng and 711 Institute. We will continue to participate in the construction of Dingheng's' Hundred Ships Plan ', helping more high-quality ships made in China go abroad and gain more recognition from the world
